Kenya Airways' New Lounges

Kenya Airways is proud to have opened its state of the art lounges at terminal 1A second floor. The two lounges have a total capacity of 315 guests. The lounges designed with the African landscapes in mind, promise to provide comfort and exclusivity in a serene ambiance. The spacious lounges, were conceptualized after a customer research done to establish the exact flyer needs.

Your lounge journey begins with a picturesque mural of a rain forest, with a caption of one of our very own forest: Kakamega forest located in Western Kenya.

They commissioned two photographers to capture these stunning scenic pieces that emblazoned each space.

As you walk through the Business Experience Center you encounter the lushness of the rain forest with green tones of the leaves and grey tones of the earth. The experience center is not just aesthetically pleasing but also functional to cater for the business traveler with counters fitted with the latest Samsung tabs, and an alcove seating fitted with universal sockets, fully complimented with high speed Wi-Fi.

You then proceed through to the formal lounge with a transition from the rain forest to the coastal landscape with the introduction of purple and blue tones. This is exemplified in the fabrics on the Giada Lounger Seat, a designer seat, from Italy’s La Palma. In the dining area, we find the more formal seating arrangement and some playful banquette seating for those travelling in groups interested in seating together. In the coastal area, you encounter the sand, which is brought out in the textured walls, the tabletops and the choice of floor tiles. The most amazing feature of this area is the honeycomb ceiling which introduces a touch of contemporary styled geometric shapes. The coastal theme is further enhanced by the blue and azure colors on the fabrics, the baskets on the walls reminiscent of the coast and the coral finish on the walls.

The informal seating area is a continuation of the Savannah theme and is designed for the passenger who enjoys some peace and quiet. This is the only area that does not have a TV screen. Complete with its own snack bar, it offers serenity for those who probably just want to catch some light reading or relax with a drink.

The napping area introduces us to the desert theme with the dune shapes on the carpet and the earth shades of the sleeper beds. The partitioning is reminiscent of the swaying grass of the Savannah and the textured walls, the desert sand. The smoking room with it's iconic “Mvule” bench is a smooth transition of the desert theme. It offers high stool seating and entertainment for our guests who would like to catch a game over a well-aged drink and their best cigar or cigarette brand.

Simba Lounge

Simba Lounge on the other end of the terminal is a celebration of the Africa heritage.

The most prominent feature in this lounge being the “melting pot”, or the “Manyatta” resonant of the Maasai hut. This iconic feature speaks of the African spirit of community and sharing: where the indigenous people would meet at the fireside chat and tell stories of yore.

As you move to the VVIP room, you realize there is an austere modernity with some light fusion of an African touch. The space is built to offer secluded privacy. Complete with fully fitted showers, the lounges promise to offer our guest a glimpse of our Africa and our true Pride as Kenya Airways.

The Pavilions is the main dining restaurant that serves exceptional buffet-style cuisines at Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner for guest on all meal plan as well as non-in-house guests. Cuisine options include indigenous African, Continental, Asian, Arabic and Mediterranean. Breakfast is usually traditional English. Beverages available range from fresh juices to international wines and spirits. The restaurant has a capacity to seat 680 people. Entertainment is provided.

Minazi Café

With a capacity of 92 people, the restaurant is open 24-hours. The restaurant is not included in half or full board packages. Minazi is a Swahili word for coconut tree. It is the resort’s bistro style restaurant, snack bar and pizzeria with a wood-fired pizza oven that serves light meals, a rich variety of our signature freshly brewed coffee, large selection of premium wines, juices, smoothies, health drinks, and an enticing selection of Italian ice creams, milkshakes, smoothies and patisserie. The restaurant also has a special menu for children with a children’s buffet for early dinner where specially trained Sarova staff look after the children.

Lido Lounge - Seafood Restaurant

Lido Lounge is a Chaine des Rotisseurs certified fine dining, al-fresco restaurant set amidst the palms on the beach with a stunning ocean view. The outdoor terrace provides spectacular views of the sea. It serves fresh seafood in a variety of fresh cuisine dishes as well as traditional favourites like grilled prawns, lobsters and crab. We design intimate dinners on the beach to celebrate special moments with family. The restaurant has a capacity for 45 people and is open seven days a week (both lunch and dinner), subject to the weather.

Cocos Beach Bar

With breathtaking ocean views and outstanding entertainment, Cocos is the perfect place to unwind after a hectic day. There is a DJ every night, special salsa nights on Fridays, karaoke every Saturday and live dance or acrobat performances on other days. Cocos Beach Bar has a capacity of 150 people. Bar snacks and beverages are served all day with a special happy hour every evening from 06:00 pm to 07:00 pm.

Sarova Whitesands has a plethora of options of activities for guests to enjoy. Activities are available both within the resort and in outdoor excursions.

There are four outdoor swimming pools with water slides, spring board, diving boards and four floodlit tennis courts that also serve as a landing ground for helicopters.

A fully equipped wellness and fitness club with state-of-the-art fitness equipment, a PADI diving centre and a host of water sports, like snorkelling and jet skiing are also available.

A popular sport with most guests. The animation team organises daily matches for guests to participate in.

The animation team has a daily calendar of activities that include water sports that are held at the large Lido pool near the beach.

Archery

Archery is a sport that involves the use of a bow and a number of arrows. The bow is used to shoot the arrows at targets, either static or moving. Archery is a fun and relaxing hobby that men and women of all ages can enjoy. It is a quiet, solitary sport that can be competitive or not, and doesnt require a whole lot of physical fitness or skill.

Lido Pool

The pool has a built-in bar serving cocktails, alcoholic drinks, juices and other drinks and is the venue for pool aerobics each morning.

Children’s Pool & Slide

Immensely popular with families and children, it features a small baby pool, and shallow children’s pool with a water slide.

Diving Pool

With a depth of several feet at the deep end, the pool is safe for diving and also serves as the learning place for the Buccaneer Diving School.

Outdoor excursions

Fort Jesus

This is a historical monument built by the Portuguese when they first invaded East Africa. In this place, many battles were fought between the Portuguese and Arabs for supremacy, and this fort was their first line of protection. Later the British used it as a prison. It is the oldest architecture in Mombasa, built by the Portuguese in 1593 for protection from the Arabs and the British. It is open for sightseeing between 8am-6pm.

Old Town

Old town depicts Mombasa s mix of Arabic and Swahili influence. This is reflected in the historic buildings, narrow streets, huge carved Lamu doors, the old harbor and the Swahili style of dress.

The Elephant Tusks

These are located along Moi Avenue in the Mombasa City. The two enormous tusks arch over both sides of the road. They were built in 1953 to welcome Princess Elizabeth who then became Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain whilst still in Kenya.

Haller Park Bamburi

This is a thriving ecosystem created from a rehabilitated limestone quarry. Key attractions include game, porcupines, peacocks, a snake park, fish farm, crocodile farm and a restaurant that specialises in game meat. It is home to a famous couple - Owen the hippo and Mzee the tortoise, who share an extraordinary bond. It is open between 8am-6pm.

Ngomongo Village

Ngomongo Villages is a new and popular local excursion. It is a collection of diverse tribal homesteads each complete with hut, cultivated crops, domestic and wild animals, wild animal traps, charms and fetishes, tin smiths and even a village witch doctor.

Each village has a tribe and specific village activities for you to engage in such as archery, rafting, tribal cuisine, hook fishing, grinding and pounding maize. The cultural village is open daily between 8am-5pm.

Mamba Village

This is the largest crocodile farm in Africa. Apart from the popular feeding time, Mamba Village also has horse riding, camel riding and picturesque botanical gardens to visit. It is home to thousands of crocodiles of all ages and sizes. Feeding time is daily and is indeed an interesting sight. Mamba Village is open daily between 8am-6pm.

Rea Vipingo

Vipingo Ridge is a destination for everyone who enjoys the best life has to offer. Set in 2,500 acres on Kenya’s North Coast, Vipingo Ridge brings a range of elements of luxury living together in a peaceful and secure gated community. It offers a wide range of amenities including: two 18 hole championship golf courses, private airstrip, game sanctuary, clubhouse, private beach club.

Shopping

The City Mall (formerly known as The Nyali Mall) is Mombasa’s first truly ultra modern shopping mall and leisure centre. The mall adjoins the existing Nakumatt Nyali complex, already the most popular and busiest shopping centre in the North Coast, inter-connected to form a single shopping and leisure experience for the public. City Mall has fulfilled a lack of retail and leisure space in Mombasa and has set a new standard by offering ultra-modern shopping environment and facilities. The mall caters for the needs of a fast expanding middle class income group residing in the surrounding areas and for tourists staying in the numerous nearby hotels and apartments.

The mall comprises 7 floors that include 2 lower basement parking floors, 4 shopping and leisure floors above ground with retail units, banking halls, fashion brands, cinemas, fast food stalls, restaurants and cafés. All floors are served with elevators and shopping and leisure floors also have escalators.

Safe and secure parking is also provided in the new mall.

Marine

Mombasa Marine Park

Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort has the longest stretch of natural beachfront on the east African coast. It is classified as a Marine Park by the Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) to protect the sea animals, plants and coral reef. The Blue Lagoon Water Sports Centre located within the resort enables guests to visit the reef in glass bottom boats to view the spectacular marine life. You can also choose to dive or snorkel among the tropical fish near the coral reef. KWS collects a park fee charged to both Kenya residents and non-residents wishing to visit the reef or go snorkelling.

Deep-Sea Diving

Buccaneer Diving, the biggest diving operator on the north coast led by Kenya s only PADI Course Director, has its premier IDC Centre at Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort where you can learn diving and experienced divers can go deep-sea diving with Buccaneer. Ozone Kids Club

Tulia is the Swahili word for relax and the Tulia Spa at Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort is designed to help you relax and rejuvenate. There are four outdoor swimming pools with water slides, spring board, diving boards and four floodlit tennis courts that also serve as a landing ground for helicopters.

A fully equipped wellness and fitness club with state-of-the-art fitness equipment, a PADI diving centre and a host of water sports, like snorkelling and jet skiing are also available.

The resort has two tennis courts and racquets and balls are provided on request.

A popular sport with most guests. The animation team organises daily matches for guests to participate in.
