Arrival Day

Upon arrival at Male International Airport you will be greeted by your guide and transferred to your floating home to begin your voyage of discovery!

Cruise south through South Male Atoll to Guraidhoo. This is time for you to settle in to your cabins and get ready for your 7 night cruise of discovery. As you set sail, relax on the sundeck, sit in the shade of the sun canopy and read a book or watch the beauty of the Maldives pass you by and maybe catch sight of dolphins.
Once anchored your local guide will provide a briefing on responsible snorkeling ready for your first underwater encounter. Coral reefs are fragile ecosystems so learning how to snorkel responsibly can help minimize your impact on the marine environment and protect the delicate balance of marine life. They will assist less confident or inexperienced snorkelers, ensuring your equipment is comfortable and you feel safe in the water.
Your guide will provide you with a fish ID card, so that you can identify all the marine life you encounter – look out for oriental sweetlips, humpback red snapper, grey large eye bream, unicorn fish, threadfin butterfly fish, collard butterfly fish, saddleback butterfly fish, Madagascar butterfly fish, Meyer’s butterfly fish, Clark’s anemone fish and Maldivian anemone fish to mention just a few!

Back on board dry off on deck and relax before dinner is served by your captain and crew!

Maldives

The Maldives is a tropical paradise in the Indian Ocean, renowned for its crystal-clear waters, powder-white sand beaches and abundant marine life. This archipelago of 26 atolls is a popular travel destination for those seeking sun, sand, and sea. With its year-round warm weather, the Maldives is a great place to escape the cold and relax in a luxurious resort. Whether you're looking for adventure, romance, or simply a place to unwind, the Maldives has something to offer everyone.

One of the main draws of the Maldives is its breathtaking beauty. The turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean are dotted with coral reefs teeming with exotic fish, making it a top destination for snorkeling and diving. With over 1,000 species of fish, the Maldives is home to some of the best snorkeling and diving sites in the world. Visitors can see colorful tropical fish, sea turtles, manta rays, and even the occasional shark.

Another highlight of the Maldives is its luxurious resorts. From overwater villas to beachfront bungalows, the resorts in the Maldives offer a level of sophistication and luxury that is hard to find elsewhere. Each resort is a self-contained world, offering guests everything they need for a comfortable and unforgettable vacation. Whether you're looking for spa treatments, world-class dining, or simply a place to relax by the pool, you'll find it at one of the Maldives' many resorts.

In addition to its natural beauty and luxurious resorts, the Maldives is also known for its warm and friendly people. The locals are welcoming and eager to share their culture with visitors, and there are plenty of opportunities to learn about the country's history, traditions, and way of life. From visiting local markets and fishing villages to taking part in traditional cultural experiences, there is much to discover in the Maldives.

Aside from lounging on the beach, there are plenty of activities to keep visitors entertained. Whether you're interested in water sports, exploring the local culture, or simply relaxing and taking in the scenery, the Maldives has something to offer. Some of the most popular activities include snorkeling and diving, fishing, surfing, and exploring the local islands. With so much to see and do, it's easy to fill your days with adventure and excitement.

Finally, the Maldives is a great destination for couples looking for a romantic getaway. With its intimate and peaceful atmosphere, it's the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and enjoy some quality time together. Whether you're celebrating an anniversary, a honeymoon, or simply looking for a break from the routine, the Maldives is sure to leave a lasting impression.

In conclusion, the Maldives is a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a tropical escape. With its breathtaking beauty, luxurious resorts, warm and friendly people, and endless opportunities for adventure and relaxation, it's no wonder that the Maldives is one of the world's most popular travel destinations.

Fortunately for us today, Maldives holidays are still an option, and hoteliers continue to expand with multiple new developments scheduled for opening over the next 5 years reaffirming their faith in the future of this island nation. But don’t get too complacent. Sea levels are still rising, and that means that land mass is still being consumed yearly. Whilst we are probably in no danger of loosing the Maldives within the next 30 years, as more land is lost, land that remains will become more expensive. It should not them come as a surprise, that within a generation, prices for Maldives holidays will be as outrageous as the ostentation that has over taken the resorts that make up this island paradise.

 image

Unlike the islands of the coast of Malaysia and Thailand, the Maldives is not a volcanic Island that has risen as a result of colliding plates. The Islands that make up the Maldives are actually deposited on the tops of coral reefs, which means that the highest place in the Maldives is a mere 8 meters above sea level- a holiday to the Maldives will certainly not satisfy mountain enthusiasts. This unique geography has allowed for some outrageously luxury resorts to open over the last decade. Each tiny Island is home to a single resort, and each resort is spread out across the island with villas ranging in size and facility options. And because each resort is its own island, most villas are either on the beach or a few seconds walk from it.

 image

Those that have been on holiday to the Maldives will describe the crystal clear waters, and the unique shade of turquoise that colours the water surrounding the islands. Even those who have never been on holiday to the Maldives will recognise images of the Island paradise instantly as being something quite different to every other island resort the world has to offer. And this is perhaps the crux of it. The Maldives is truly unique. There are many islands in tropical climates with nice beaches and hotels- but the combination of sugar white sand, warm waters and secluded islands protected by coral reefs is unique to the Maldives.

 image

Another unique characteristic of the Maldives is the loss of a sense of time. Go on a two week holiday to the Maldives and by day 5 you will not even know the day of the week without asking- that is, if you even remember how many days you have been on holiday! Loosing track of time however in no way means getting board. Cheap Maldives holidays do not exists, and the hoteliers know that- so they make sure that their guests get everything that they would expect for the sums they have spent. This means the resorts are packed with facilities from Water-sports to land based group activities. Dining on most Islands is an event in itself, and one that can easily take out 2 hours from your schedule. Considering that you do this three times a day, you are only left with 10 hours to lounge by the pool or the sea under the sun!

 image

There are of course some people who simply cannot fathom the idea of being stuck on an island for two weeks- however beautiful the surroundings. Even these people however love the Maldives but as part of a multi centre holiday rather than a holiday in its own right. With an increasing number of airlines flying to the Maldives, you have the choice of a stop over in Dubai, Abu Dhab, Istanbul, Singapore, Sri Lanka and various cities in India. Sri Lanka tends to be the most popular combination choice destination with the Maldives, but Dubai is probably the most popular actual stopover destination because of the number of flights on offer combined with the array of hotels available.

Gulhi island boat yard tour and traditional dancing

Following breakfast, you will cruise north back into South Malé Atoll. Before lunch, you can head into the water to a snorkeling point where it is common to encounter turtles.

Just before sunset, you will transfer ashore to the local island of Gulhi. Visit the boatyard there  to see the enormous boats under renovation, chat with men working on the boats,  as you walk down the sandy streets, chat to local ladies working outside,  sweeping the streets, and finally refresh and recharge with a cool Kurumba (coconut) whilst watching the comings and goings at the harbour.
Over your refreshment your local guide will explain about the local initiatives and projects which aim to reduce the amount of plastic waste in the islands and the work being done by Parley of the Oceans.
Dinner this evening will be a selection of local dishes accompanied by traditional dancing and the beat of the ‘bodu beru’ – a large drum – the crew will sing traditional songs to a rhythmical beat until they reach a crescendo, making for a fun and relaxed evening under the stars!
